This poem was written by Davidson as he reflected on changes in the city from his boyhood years while growing up in Pontiac until 1968.
The theatres are gone now, so is the courthouse;
the Clinton River has long been buried, and ... no one knows where the minnows went.
Most of the store windows are empty; the band seldom marches anymore,
no one cares what happened to the pigeons.
The cop is no longer every boy's hero,
and ... who wants to be a fireman anyway?
